I generate my own drawing prompts based on images from my photography. I have divided the month in to four sections—Mannequins, Chairs outside, feet on location, & day 31.

My process after selecting and cropping the photographs, is to use backlighting to help me place key points on the paper. I sketch in pencil first and then ink the lines, adding shading afterwards. I am making single line drawings this year, that is, once i start drawing i don’t lift the pen off the page. I do draw the square outline ahead of time with a ruler, and start from that bounding line for the single line.

MANNEQUINS: I am fascinated by them because they are how we see ourselves or how we want to see ourselves or how someone wants us to see ourselves; representations of humanity. They are international in use, and thus can be investigated and appreciated through a cultural lens, as well as socio-economic ones.

CHAIRS Outside: This is a phenomenon that first came to my attention in Korea—the inside chair in the wild. I grew up with the concept of outdoor chairs, patio chairs, camping chairs, but the inside chair outside was new and after awhile I found them refreshing. Not all of these chairs started their intended life as inside chairs, but I still find their place in their surroundings intriguing.

FEET On Location: Often these images were photographed while I was waiting; sometimes while I was Waiting for my Driver, an IG series of images spanning a handful of years. They reflect a place in time indicated by the footwear or lack thereof.
