2020 In the beginning

January 2, 2020 Morning light at the 34th floor pool

There was a brief hint of what was to come in the news out of China. I was just back from Bahrain and the year ahead looked nothing like it does now in early June. My musing today is about ambiguity. This was a big topic in my graduate school program, mostly cultural ambiguity within the framework of the Four Knowings—knowing about, knowing how, knowing why, and knowing oneself. Popular wisdom is that we get to know ourselves within the contest of interactions with others. Since mid-March I have been getting to know myself within the context of interacting with myself. I find I create structure, I create projects, I generate intrinsic motivations, I reach out.
